Comparing Costs
You can use the Price to Compare shown on your bill to shop or compare prices offered by other electric suppliers. The Price to Compare reflects the average amount a BGE customer in your rate class pays per kilowatt-hour on an annual basis for Price Freeze Service or POLR. We've averaged the price over a year since summer and non-summer rates differ and by time of day for customers who pay time-of-use rates.

Note that the Price to Compare includes generation and the cost of transmission; it does not include charges associated with the delivery of electricity.

How do you use Price to Compare?
To use this tool, look at your past bills to find your typical monthly kWh usage. Then multiply your typical kWh by the difference between BGE's Price to Compare and the price offered by another supplier. But keep in mind the Price to Compare on your bill is an annual class average amount. Individual customers will have differences based on their load shape, time of use and season.

Price to Compare Calculator
Use our Compare calculator to calculate your individual Price to Compare. When shopping for an electric supplier, there are many things to consider, including price. We've added a box to your BGE bill that gives you your ''Price to Compare''. This price reflects the average annual amount a customer on your rate schedule pays per kilowatt-hour for their BGE Electricity Supply. (Presented in Microsoft Excel format.)

Billing Options
In addition to price, you should consider billing options when shopping for a new supplier. Depending on your supplier, you may also have up to three billing options from which to choose:

  • A single bill from BGE that includes charges from BGE and your supplier. This is called an LDC (Local Distribution Company) Consolidated Bill;
  • A single bill from your supplier that includes charges from BGE and your supplier. This is called a Supplier Consolidated Bill; or
  • Two separate bills -- one from BGE and one from your supplier. This is called Dual Billing.
  • Note: If you now have other charges on your BGE bill - such as for BGE natural gas - you will receive a separate bill from BGE for these products or services if you select a Supplier Consolidated Bill.
