  • Before enrolling, be sure to research suppliers and their billing options carefully.
  • When you have selected a supplier, contact that supplier directly.
  • After you authorize a supplier to enroll you, the supplier will contact BGE. We will provide the supplier with your pertinent account information, including your energy usage and consumption history.
  • BGE will send you a confirmation letter that includes the name of your new supplier and the date on which your new service begins.
  • If your enrollment request is made at least 17 days before your next scheduled meter reading date, your new service will be effective on this date. (The date of your next reading appears on your bill above the Summary Box.)
  • If your enrollment request is received less than 17 days before your next scheduled meter reading date, your new service will be effective on the following month's meter reading date; energy from chosen suppliers will begin flowing on the first scheduled meter reading date after you enroll.
  • What if you change your mind during enrollment? If you change your mind, you have 10 days from the date on the confirmation letter to cancel (rescind) your enrollment. To cancel your enrollment, call BGE at 410-265-4100 or 1-800-265-6177. We will notify the supplier of the rescission.

If you previously received your service from BGE, you will automatically be re-enrolled with BGE until you select a new supplier. If your previous supplier was not BGE, you will be re-enrolled with your previous supplier. BGE will notify the supplier(s) of the enrollment cancellation and re-instatement.

    Changing Suppliers
If after using the services of one supplier you decide to switch to another, first check the terms of the agreement with your existing supplier, as well as the agreement with the new supplier.  Here's how to switch:

Contact the new supplier to initiate enrollment.
  • The new supplier will contact BGE electronically with an enrollment request.
  • BGE will notify your current supplier of your request to end service. Then BGE will contact the new supplier and send you a confirmation letter that includes the name of your new supplier and the date on which your new service begins.
  • Similar to your first enrollment request, if your latest enrollment request is made at least 17 days before your next scheduled meter reading date, your new service will be effective on that meter reading date.
  • If your enrollment request is received less than 17 days before your next scheduled meter reading date, your new service will be effective on the following meter reading date.
  • BGE does not charge you a fee for changing suppliers.
  • What if you want to end (drop) the relationship with your supplier?
    Drop requests may be:

  • Customer initiated - you can contact your supplier or BGE to initiate a drop. Depending upon the timing, the drop may be effective with the next scheduled meter reading date or the following month's meter reading date. Within a 10-day window, you can rescind the drop request and re-establish a relationship with your supplier.

  • Supplier initiated - your supplier will contact BGE to initiate a drop. Suppliers are required to submit a drop transaction to BGE at least 35 days before the date service will be discontinued. Customers cannot rescind a supplier-initiated drop. If your supplier terminates your service, you may enroll with another supplier; otherwise, you will automatically receive service from BGE.
  • BGE will confirm the drop by responding to the supplier and by sending you a confirmation letter.
